Pieter Laurens Mol Mer d'Icare, 1984
m.simons is happy to announce its participation in PAN Amsterdam 2026. For its third consecutive participation, the gallery presents new work by Hans Hoekstra, Marieke Zwart, Jan van der Ploeg, Kristoffer Zeiner and Tim Mathijsen. Hans Hoekstra has returned to the human figure, and shows several large canvases in which he builds a kind of collage of people, figures and places, all drawn on location at different times and in different settings. Marieke Zwart brings a tender, intimate portrait of her daughter, while Jan van der Ploeg presents new and more intimate work on canvas. Kristoffer Zeiner, who recently had a solo exhibition at NAP+, shows stunning new canvases, and Tim Mathijsen, who had a striking solo show at the gallery last year about copying and imitation, presents plaster casts taken from works by Hildo Krop.
Alongside these new works, we show earlier pieces: Robbin Heyker presents his well-known bird paintings, Ido Vunderink shows work made in recent years, and Michael Tedja shows the work with two taxidermied pheasants that he first presented during his Prix de Rome presentation at the Stedelijk Museum in 2023.
The presentation is completed by a lithograph from 1948 by Pablo Picasso and a small early work on canvas by René Daniëls. We are also proud to present the work of Pieter Laurens Mol (Breda, 1946) for the first time in an m.simons presentation. His work moves between two poles: the cool precision of science and the dreaminess of poetry, with the emphasis shifting from work to work. We show five works from 1968 to 1986, from the biplane of Schroefwind to Determinatie, a technical drawing in which words like Birdsong and Morning Mist take the place of measurements, while in Angel’s Wing and Mer d’Icare science and myth come together in a single object. PAN Amsterdam 2026 runs from November 1 until November 8, with private openings on October 31 and on Thursday evening, November 5. You will find m.simons at Stand 11.
