text

The work of Ciro Duclos (1991 Amsterdam) is often inspired by both his own everyday surroundings and those of his ancestors. The son of a Dutch mother and a Peruvian father, his work stems from the study of the past, both cultural and material. Previous series of sculptures arose from working with found materials, such as his Frontera installations of deformed fences. The Pillars series consists of sculptures with a more earthy atmosphere: layer upon layer and boundary upon boundary, it is raw material showing structures that reflect both on the architectural basis of urbanised urban landscapes and on the uncertain separation between nature and culture. Duclos also shows a new series of works on the wall, which consist of memories printed on cut-up glass. The missing fragments in the images refer to the invisible parts of a memory that only live on in our minds. Both through archaeology and history but also through a contemporary interpretation of working with everyday materials, Working through Waiting presents an intimate look into Ciro Duclos's spatial and visual creation process.
