text

What does a plaster record sound like? Not forever, because with each revolution the player's needle scrapes the record further away. Slowly the music disappears. Tim Mathijsen (1987) cast a plaster copy of the plate with the song 'Sleep Walk' by the American brothers Santo & Johnny. This attractive tune, now part of the collective memory, has been used by hundreds of musicians for decades, so that its original creators and version have been forgotten. A similar fate befell this plaster plate 'Sleepwalker'.
