Bradwolff Projects presents a group exhibition featuring Aaro Murphy, Samuel White Evans and Kristoffer Zeiner, bringing together new works in sculpture, painting and drawing. From different perspectives, the three artists explore how bodies, images, objects and environments are shaped, perceived and imagined.
The works move between the physical and the virtual, the material and the imagined, the organic and the synthetic. Technology, memory, imagination and everyday forms are not treated as fixed points of departure, but as ways of reconsidering how we experience the world around us.
Aaro Murphy (Finland, 1991) is a visual artist working with moving image, sound and sculpture. His works often take the form of interconnected installations in which he explores the delicate interplay between technology and the body. Murphy frequently examines the boundary between the synthetic and the organic.
His work has recently been presented at Art Rotterdam, Dalston Gallery Tokyo, Forum Box Gallery, the Nordic Pavilion at Expo Osaka, SOLU Helsinki, Kunsthalle Turku and Tokyo Arts and Space, among others.
Samuel White Evans (England, 1996) uses drawing to investigate the visual languages of pattern design, film scripts, set design, architecture and choreography, among other forms. Through these references, Evans considers the role of form within society and history.
Costumed figures, chairs, shoes and unwanted items of clothing recur throughout his work as characters and objects carrying traces of different eras, ideologies and modes of production. Across the oeuvre, a pair of trousers becomes a small history of modernity, pursued by spotlights.
Evans recently graduated from the Piet Zwart Institute and has exhibited at MaMA, TENT and Tale of a Tub in Rotterdam, Chica in Phoenix and B32 in Maastricht, among others.
Kristoffer Zeiner Christiansen (Norway, 1987) is an Amsterdam-based artist whose practice is primarily rooted in painting. His work explores the porous boundary between reality and imagination. In his paintings, memories, dreams and lived experiences converge in landscapes in which meaning remains open and continually develops.
“I live with ideas that accumulate alongside mythology, games, conversations, memories, walks, literature, and ecosystems. Together, they form a shared mental ecology.”
The paintings are built up through numerous thin layers of oil paint and pigment and develop slowly over time. Rather than beginning with a predetermined image, they unfold through the process of painting itself. The landscape is never merely a backdrop, but an active presence from which these worlds emerge.
