Meeting You for the First Time

Seeing something for the first time determines how it will be remembered forever. Seeing something again can make ancient memories feel as close as yesterday. When you are forced to leave at a moment's notice, what cannot truly be left behind? How can you even make that decision?

Like the suitcase that always stood packed at my Moluccan grandparents house in case they would be deported, this installation incorporates many objects that carry both material and immaterial significance. A shifting shape of cultural heritage and divergent perspectives that begs the question: how do we determine what is truly important?
