Saparua and Camp Vught: two brutally contrasting images. A collective memory of what has happened, woven through with banana fibers. They are a warp and weft; the one follows the other but the memory is so strong that its spirit will stay alive. Now, without the other the one does not exist. 

‘Deformed by connections’ is one of a series of three works that has sprung from looking into the history of my grandparents and the colonization of the Maluku Islands. An attempt to tell what they themselves cannot, so we can continue to talk about it.
