This month went off to a good start with m.simons' first international Art Fair in Brussels. Now, back in Amsterdam I am ever so excited to share with you new work by Hans Hoekstra. We will be opening his show on Thursday, during the 10th edition of Amsterdam Art Week.
Hoekstra is known to most for his large paintings of human figures, which he made at De Ateliers, exhibited at Drents Museum and which got him the prestigious Royal Prize for Painting. Most of the recent paintings are void of human form. Since the pandemic Hoekstra started to use his direct environment; he took his studio view, his desk and window frames as materials to deal with his clearly visible joy in painting.
